Stack & Whack - 60 Degree

The Dorchester Ragged Edge Quilters have been working on the 60 degree Stack & Whack & I wasn't going to get involved with such a project...way to much time & money for that! However after seeing the results they were getting from the oddest fabrics, how could I not!
I needed a few rules of my own, I could only do it with the help of my fabric stash or as my husbands puts it-- my stock. The down side was I needed over 5 yards of the background - well I cut into my bolt of carefully purchased white Kona , that Liz had purchased for me in the USA last winter, at Joanne's. Using her coupon sales strategy, Liz gets it at a great price & I dreamed of using it in my 30's Dresden Plate design. I may have enough Kona left for a lap or twin quilt now. This one presently being made is a queen sized one, a summer quilt for me!
Over the long weekend Bill put up a design wall, on Nick's living room window. On a positive note for Nick, the design wall does provide shade from the hot west setting sun. And after a visit to Deb's sewing room, she had the cleverest idea for hanging her design wall--I pirated it, thanks Deb!  And thank you Bill! Now my ideas can be viewed vertically & the blocks are now up off the floor.
This was the only 'repeat fabric' I had. It was originally purchased about 10 years ago for drapes for my grand daughters room--she's 16 now & has since out grown this print. So I've stacked & whacked it in the 60 degree cuts needed for this quilt design. And the 30's quilt I wanted to do with this white, well it's coming alive with the colours within this quilt. I'm going to continue with that era as I add the borders...back to the studio for the big hunt for the border colour. I'm thinking of muted greens & blues, could change to muted black/white?
 Star close ups...

This is a wee quilt I made with the leftover scraps. I auditioned lots of colour for the border & finally used a red/white gingham print for the border & binding. I don't have enough gingham for the large quilts border - something will come to life & talk to me for a border.
In my studio, I know I'm a  SABLE -- Stash  Availability  Beyond  Life  Expectancy!! As true die hard quilter! I can't even throw my scraps out, just stay tuned for those scrap quilts that I'm going to make. And that is why I'm going to live till I'm 100 years old, I have to! just to create the ideas that are in my head & Oh ...those UFO's & the numerous kits...
