Rainy May!

It has been raining so much this month, and the outside is looking so good for it!

The bulbs are in full bloom, and the finches & hummingbirds have returned!

This was taken several days ago, & it has not stopped raining, so the grass is very green & long now.

Every time you look out the window, it seems like the daffodils are smiling at you!

The orange daylilies are making their way through the earth, too!

The lamb's ear needs to have a raking to remove the old growth from last year. This is one of the bees' happy places when the soft lavender coloured flowers are in bloom.

The climbing hydrangea has come to life & Bill's making another trellis under my sewing room as it's spreading outward on the ground in that area.

Mother's Day was made special by a handmade card by Nick, so special I have framed it & added a little figure of Rexton the Manx with it!

With that special card, Nick & Leslie also gifted this mom with these books!

This book is a 10-year chronicle of the gardens here at Beaver Moon, started on Mother's Day. xXx

This handmade rooster was made 25 years ago for my Mother's Day, by Nick. I mod-podged it to keep the clay from drying out & Bill is making me a custom frame for it. As someone who makes things for others, I truly appreciate these thoughtful gift-giving labours of love. As my father would say, "It tickles the cockles of my heart."

The grass is green and will need mowing when the sun starts to dry everything up. Bill is working on getting the mowers out of storage today. In about 2-3 days, this rainy patch will turn to sunny skies again! Oh, how happy to see spring and all the snow gone!!

With Rusty gone, the yard seems quiet. Henny & The Rebas appear to be happy with the warmer weather, and the soft rain doesn't bother them at all.

I made saddles for them in pure cotton to stop any pecking happening & it has worked. Before putting the saddles on them, Bag Balm with an antiseptic was rubbed into the red areas to help keep any infection at bay.

It's a free downloadable pattern with a tutorial by HelloSewing.com. I went through my stash of fabric & looked for a colour that was not red/orange/pink in it, as that will trigger pecking. I used one from Lori Holt's Calico collection for the red Reba's.

And here is a Reba modelling it!

It was hard to get a good photo as this little T-Rex can run up to 9mph! They can do everything in them, including dust bathing, as they are nowhere near this clean now! lol

I've been working on my 'zippy bags'.

These are from the Calico Garden collection. It's a panel mixer of  Lori Holt's collections. It will make 4 large bags & 4 small bags. I've made the large quilt from that collection in a SAL I did.

I made a plastic holder on the back to hold seeds that I could see at a glance. We're going to try cucumbers this year, a first for us!

Here's the large quilt I made from the Calico Garden collection. Notice how I put in 3 dark hens, well, two turned out to be roosters!!

With the scrap fabric, I made this bag, a real scrappy bag! lol

Complete with the instructions on the back! With the cost of fabric these days it is a waste not, want not.

This is a crochet and knitting bag that I made from Lori's other panel. I lined it with a different fabric to use as the lining for another bag. All my bags are sturdy with batting lining added between the two cotton decor  & cotton fabric. I like to have something in my hands in the evening to work on.

There was also a pencil case-type bag to make, too! And from the cutout corners, I made little needle books & stitch holder pockets for my yarn goods. All fit neatly into their bags!

Bill was at work in England this month & brought me home four William Morris napkins of the Strawberry Thief. I took two of them & made them into a standing bag!

And from those four cutout corners, I made a mug rug!
The fabric napkins were the same decor-weight fabric that Lori Holt's panels were made from.

Let's go into the 100 Acre Woods to see the quilt blocks!

Eeyore is such a character, it was a joy making this block!

Tigger is a wonderful thing, with his top made of rubber & his bottom made out of springs!

The cutting out of Christopher Robin will be this week. I'll take photos to share with you!

The Pig & Turnips are finished for the Sew Fresh Sampler quilt. I'm working on the Sheep & Sprouts right now. Many more blocks with this two colour quilt.

Thank you for visiting me here at Beaver Moon. It's still raining & the high tide is in the Miramichi Bay. Time to start a warm lunch for Bill, he has been out working in this wet windy weather this morning.

Thanks again, see you next blog & hopefully that will be sooner than the last few!!
Where does time go?!

Hugs, Cynthia xXx
