Rexton Is Spayed

Oh what a whirl wind I've been on in the past few weeks & now past the middle of January already!
Bill & I had a fun week in Clearwater Florida where the elevator code meets were held, I slipped on as 'added luggage' & was so glad I took the time to be with him. I forgot my camera bag at his apartment & so there's just one of me & my new Romanian girlfriend Gratziana. With our guys in elevator code meetings, she & I sunned by the pool & shopped together.
She's going to the code meetings the fall in Hawaii...not me because I'll be right where I want to be on the east coast. I was nice to be in The Sunshine State for a week though!

I called the vet yesterday at 9:30am,  to make rexton an appointment to have her spayed and was asked if I could bring her in at 10am!
As Bill stated to me, ( he was in the middle of putting the first coat of paint on the laundry room walls) it would be best sooner than later because I worry so much about having pets operated on. Back in the early 80's my Sparky the Dalmatian had kidney stones & was operated on,  there were complications & I lost him. :(
So with crate in hand I took her in for the procedure. The office called at 3pm to say all is well & to pick her up at 5:30pm.

At 5:30 last night I picked her up & a hefty vet bill too...turns out she was still in heat!! That will cost another $42.00 on top of the total! It's all done now & she's going to be an inside cat so I'm hoping that was her last vet bill.
I was also told that she is to wear her head cone for 2 weeks! AND she's not to jump!!
Well this cat lives to jump, she loves heights & can get there with ease.
I put her cat tower sideways for the two weeks, it now takes up 1/2 the lounge floor. lol
Oh the concessions we make for our beloved pets!

Here is Rexton wearing her fashionable head cone! lol

I kept her in the crate till the drugs wore of, she was so wobbly.

Then Boris went crazy to go outside, he saw a bunny rabbit that he wanted! I enlarged the picture...see it in the next yard by the black urn? Nothing wrong with his eyes!

I gasped when I saw this colour all over her & they reassured me it's just iodine from the surgery.

Such a small incision for such a large bill, I wish we had a vet in the family!

Boris is real careful around her.
She feels better having him around too. Last night I slept with Rexton in the crate, on the bed & Boris slept next to the crate. Rexton & Boris both slept through the night, I was thankful as I had my worries of an interrupted sleep. All is well. Now to get through the next 2 weeks!

I want to go into my KYROTIME...
Playing with blocks! These blocks have fallen so many times that I was going to fix this with wood glue!
                                                            This looked too twisty...

                                                         This looked too leaning towerish...

This look was 'just right'. So all these blocks are now one & I'm going to place them over my studio bookcase out east. Everything these days is about 'out east', I think I'm homesick but the weather there would be nasty. I watch the weather & the temp there is 7C, the temp here is -4C, who has the good weather now?

This week will be a busy one making drapes for Mitch's livingroom & bedroom. I also want to do a John Deere baby quilt for baby Konred, to keep him warm,  he's due to arrive next month. Congratulations to Jess & Kelsey on their first born!

Thanks for stopping by & I hope you too have a great productive week.
Let us sew, let us sew, let us sew! LOL

And Sew This Is January :)

Oh baby it's cold outside! And it's too cold to snow...for now.

Sugar withdrawal has not been as bad as I had expected. I'm getting creative with making veggie soups too. Easter is going to be the hard one with all the temptations everywhere. But again, one day at a time is working for me.

My next-door neighbour, Pete has been a God sent to me, he snowblows out my laneway for me & then does our streets sidewalk. I know our postal people are thankful for his efforts of making winter a little more accessible.

It's so cold & windy that even the Mrs. Cardinal is having a bad hair day!

And yes she has something to say about it! lol

She is beautiful but Mr. Cardinal wears the colour in that family!

Sad news...
Carmel Bernetta Jagoe

A fellow rug hooker &quilter passed away recently & that was a shock to me. Yes she was 80 years young but so full of a passion for life.
I will also remember her for her laughter. RIP my friend.

I finished my Christmas Present from Paulette, for such a small piece there sure where a lot of stitches! lol

How sweet is this little runner?!
It was suppose to be a pin cushion but for now I have an abundance of them, so I repurposed it so now I can admire it as it's new life of a mini runner.
Thank you Paulette, I love primitive styling & you hit it on the head with this wee kit.

You know it's cold when... these two snuggle up together in front of the fireplace!

Old Tom has a patience for this young kitten, some days more than others.

But Boris...well that's a dog of the same colour! lol

I played this week with the grapevine wreath I made in the fall & added pinecones to it. The florist wire holds them in place as I plan on using it outside, once I've filled it with more 'found nature'.
A good spray of varnish & it should be good to go next fall for outside decorating.

I also finished a table runner, all hand sewn with perle cotton thread. I'm finishing what I started with many projects in my UFO piles. The primitive styling is so cozy on these cold winter days.
This is the back of the runner. On runners of wool there's no batting but I think I should have inter lined it with flannel. Time will tell.

My heart goes out to Bill this weekend. Bless him, he thought the second coat would be done then the roman shade, light covers, all the things to make the back hall right again. Wrong!! The second coat of paint was not the same colour mix as the first pail...the difference is noticeable. He's off to Canadian Tire to get a third gallon of Serene colour paint & the back hall & staircase will have a 'third coat' applied. Just when you think your getting ahead...

This month has/is so cold & the weather network said it will finish with below temps too!
I'm going to sew away this month & of course shovel snow inbetween!

Thank you for stopping by & stay warm & healthy as those of us in the cold are being preserved!

January Begins With New Beginnings ;)

January has begun & I love the feeling that a 'New Year' gives you, one of hope & the ability to do & be what ever your heart desires.
For me it began when I carried my 44lb suitcase up the front staircase...OMGosh was that heavy, so heavy I never thought I'd make it to the top! After the struggle it hit me!! That's about the number of pounds that I'm over weight! What am I trying to do with myself, create a heart attack?! My grandfather died at the age of 42 of a heart attack & I watch my cholesterol levels annually but the weight that I've gained over the last 25 years...a heart attack waiting to happen carrying all that weight! No wonder my activity levels fall so much at the end of the day, I carry that suit case on my body!!
So what am I going to do about it? Well in 1992 I quit smoking after my 3 year old asked me 'Why do you want to die?' as I would inhale on my cigarette. After 22 years of smoking I awoke one morning & quit...I didn't want to die, as the innocence of that child spoke the truth.
So with that said I'm going through a bit of withdrawal as I dropped 'sugar' out of my diet. I know that I'm addicted to sugar, I love the taste & the good feeling it brings. On January 1st I started day one...then day two...day three, yes just one day at a time. I know I can do it but it will be hard. Some days harder than others but it can be done. No sugar as my life turns the corner, for the better.
Enough!!

How sweet is this photo!

                                                                      Boris & Rexton

                                                           These two are such buddies!

Tommy is glad that Boris has a buddy & maybe he'll stop mounting him but it hasn't made any difference. Oh Boris your quite the character!

Remember Mibsie's wallhanging?

                                                                Mibsie's Wallhanging

                                                     Only two blocks needed!

Patterned Block -  Eight blocks sewn together

Well, I wanted to do it & I did with my stash of homespun.

First & foremost here's some hindsight... work your sewing from left to right or you'll be 'unsewing' your mistakes! I did with several of my 2 1/2 X 4 1/2 pieces!!

I would look & remember - postage stamp to the right, sew to the left. I also make another line to sew 1/2" from the original line to make a miniature block. With 64 light blocks & 64 dark blocks, I'll have 128 mini blocks to play with & no waste of fabric!

                                                   Here's the pile of blocks

And voila! The finished piece! I'm going to add a couple of borders & use it as a table cloth at the cottage. It was really fun to put together & thank you Nick for helping me do the colour placement.

I also finished hand sewing my wee squirrel & once I had him together he needed something on him....

So I crocheted a tam & scarf.

                                                  This is Boris auditioning it...

                                                        Now it's on the squirrel

And the squirrels now join the trio of mice!

Home reno's begin in 2015

The reno's this year has begun with the upstairs laundry room.

That room was originally the upstairs apartment kitchen so it was only fitting to have it as a laundry room, with the water connection & 220 wattage for the dryer, from the stove that was once there.
Prior to the laundry room it was part of our eldest son's bedroom & the laundry room was in the basement at that time! After having the laundry upstairs after all the kids move out! If I knew then what I know now...it would've been there in the first place!!

The floor is being replaced to a water proof laminate  floor.

                                             Nick & Bill working...Handsome & Handy!

So well your mudding & sanding....

Would you? Could you? Mud the back staircase, so it can be painted?

                                                                                                                                                                                                                Thank You!

After, 1st coat has been painted.

It looks so much better. The colour is Canadian Tire's ORIGINS Benjamin Moore's Serene  OR488
This paint is excellent & goes on sale often. I've painted with many paints over the years & really endorse this brand.
We used it last year on the lounge & covered a very dark green with this same colour! In two coats it was such a pure light colour.

The morning sun is what your seeing on the left wall.
It's so much lighter & airy, with just one coat.  I really like it, thank you Bill. XO

This is the first week into 2015 & it's been a product & positive one. I look forward to this year as it unfolds itself to me.

Thank you for stopping by & I hope you too have a year that's to your liking!

Thought for the week...
Would have, could have...just do it! One day at a time!
