Hardwicke Harmony

I'm hearing the cicada nearly every day now, to let me know that this too will pass & savor the present time of these hot summer days & beautiful sunsets.

The backyard faces Bay Du Vin Island & on nights like this, the sunsets make the house glow red!

For the past two weeks, I've seen this rabbit every morning & then again in the evening.

He enjoys munching on the weeds in the dry grass. Funny how the weeds stay green & the grass looks like hay.

It has a light baggy underbelly which leads me to think maybe a momma or older or both! lol

I do enjoy watching the wildlife around the house through the windows. The Bostons smell this rabbit every time they're outside to play fetch.

The shade garden did very well this year & the hose will not reach it so I've watered it with the rain barrel water a few times. The gnomes are being bashful hiding in the plants. The rabbit likes this area too but I mostly see him by the wood pile.

Oh my, I was very shocked to see this house when I drove down Eel River Road to see the apartment. Lucky the owner, a volunteer firefighter for Baie-Ste-Anne, was in PEI when this happened. I always admired how they fixed it up. Winmar has been there since this misfortune.

On a happier note, Old Tom has taken to the wooden dough bowl again, it might feel cool & cozy on the marble coffee table. He has the Saltscapes & Country Sample magazines under him. lol

With the leftover squares from the Seaside Bargello quilt, I made this pillow cover & tried out a quilting design that I want to use on the Bargello quilt. It was easy & I'm going to give it a try!

I brought the lost Christmas tree into the house & placed birds inside it. We've been looking for this tree for 2 years & I plan on enjoying it even in the summer!

Thank you for coming in for a visit. I've been quilting the 'Life Began In A Garden & the Seaside Bargello is next. So do pop in next week to see those up on the wall!

Have a safe wonderful weekend wherever you may be. I know I will as Bill's home from China tonight!

Cement Floor & Septic System Complete!

We had rain that was much needed this week & the cement was poured the day after it rained.
These photos were early Wednesday morning.

I arrived at 8:30am to see the last of the cement floor as it is poured out.

It was smart to get the work done before the hot blazing sun is upon the work area.

Behind Bill's shop, the septic drainage system was being put in.

With this solid base, the wooden structure will go up very quickly.

The morning was a hot one & doing all that physical work must have been draining by the end of this job.

The job site that morning was busy with both contractors of cement & septic getting it finished.

It's really taking shape now, from the ground up!

I don't know how many cement trucks came in from Newcastle but as this one was emptying another one arrived & was waiting.

With rain, the day/night before it was a bit wet but today was a great hot dry day. The next day would be another day of heavy rain.

The dirt in the background is the topsoil for later to cover the septic area.

There's a lot of cement around & now through this footprint of the apartment.

And by the end of the day, it looks great! Can you see down the hall? lol

The drainage to the weeping tile area. Daniel is standing by the septic area itself. Everything was so massive it took me by surprise!

The cement septic is massive too & will need to be emptied every 5 years, it is huge!

20 feet out from Bill's shop is the beginning of the drainage, then every six feet is another!

Next week the lumber is being delivered, 90 Eel River is going to be a buzz of activity.

Photos to follow next Friday of the busy week.

Thanks for popping in to see the construction of the Eel River Apartment. Bill & I are excited about this building as it comes to life!

Have a great weekend wherever you are!

Plumbing Lines

The installation of the under the floor plumbing lines are now completed!

                                                                     Monday morning.

We're in such a heatwave right now & there's little shade on the property.

The dirt is being tampered down to make a firm surface.

The five-foot-wide hallway is becoming visible.

Everything is going as planned & totally uneventful, just the way we like it!

It gets dusty when the warm winds blow & we've had no rain this week to cool things down either.

Roger the neighbour from up Eel River Road, comes onto the job site everytime he's out & about.

I see him nearly everytime I go to see the progress. He stated that he wouldn't be living in that place but his interest sure is peeked! lol

The 2" foam floor has now been installed & the water lines are running on top of the foam.

The foundation is a cement slab & that is what the building will be built upon.

The cement foundation wall has the plumbing coming out, so much has to be measured & thought through for each contractor that will be on site.

A first glance I thought it looked like a huge water fountain!
                                                                     Or a splash pad!

It is hard to view the scale of the building until it starts to rise up from the floor.

The cement will be poured onto the foam insulated floor on Tuesday.
It sure is summertime here & I bet Mark & his employee wish those hoses were filled with water & they were working on a splash pad! lol

This has been a productive week on the building of the apartment. Next week, more cement being poured & the floor will take shape!

Have a wonderful, safe weekend wherever you are. Thanks for stopping in & I hope you come back again for another visit to see the Eel River Apartment progress!

Heatwave Continues - Cicada Sings!

We're still in a heatwave here in NE New Brunswick, so many other places are feeling this summer heat too! We are in desperate need of a couple of days of rain when the Bostons run, it's a dust storm on the lawn! Maybe today, we have 'a chance of rain' & it sure is overcast & windy but no rain yet.
Bill's in China this week & with the humidity at 94%, the temp there is 44C, yuk!! Even with the A/C it can only reach 29C turned up high at the factory. Everyone is feeling this summer heat everywhere!

Physical Training
I have stayed with my fitness training for 2018 & now I'm entering into 8 months of it, the time has wings! All classes are one hour, in that hour it's a warm up, activity, & cool down.  On Monday & Wednesday, it's resistance training & on Tuesday & Thursday, it's kickboxing. I have inproved my strength & some weight has come off too!

This is a photo after our class this morning. As you can see it was a bowling alley in the community center, now it is for our fitness training & kickboxing.

The summertime is a bit slower but come fall all bags are taken with kickboxers.

This is my bag, it is not suspended from the ceiling & has a sand weighted bottom. I use it because it absorbs my punches & kicks better as my neck has issues fro two seperate old, wiplash falls, one on ice in Ontario & the other on stones in Alberta. I'm working on getting better strength & balance.

And staying physically, mentally, & spiritally balanced keeps the stress away. Our new workout shirts are in & I chose this saying to have on my shirt. I'm really enjoying the classes & Donna is an excellent instructor with her positive infectious attitude towards aging with strength & independence.

My Kyrotime

I have finished all the blocks for the Seaside Bargello & now will start putting it together & then add the red border. I'll post next week on the finished top.

The eagle head turned out great. I can't wait to try another glass project, I forgot how much I enjoyed working with glass. It was 2002 the last time I cut into it! What is old has created new excitement in this medium. I now have to find all the grinders & soldering irons to see how they work for the new November students to work on.

Furkids

Old Tom Cat has been enjoying the velvet pillows on the sofa. He does sleep strangely & looks to be uncomfortable but will snooze for hours there.

Rexton loves her height on top of her perch & likes to be undisturbed whilst there.

Doesn't she look pleased with getting her photo taken? lol

I'm so happy with the number of purple flowers in the urn. We chose the hanging basket because of seeing a few of them in it & they have flourished around the outside of the geraniums.
This flowering urn is viewed from the dining room bay window. The weeds need cutting but there is not much green grass left now. Really need some rain.

The sunporch houses the house plants & is one of the favourite rooms this summer. It doesn't have air conditioning in it so I leave the garden doors from the great room & the dining room to get the A/C in & some of the afternoon heat out. The lined roman shades really help with that too.

I heard the cicada bug this week, the last summer song is being sung. Eight more weeks & first frost will be on us. Oh, I'm savoring summer. Till then stay cool in this heatwave wherever you are.

Tomorrow is the Eel River Apartment post. See you then!
